December 2023

31st December 2023

December saw the children being very busy with show productions.  On Thursday 7th, Ruby and Pearl Class performed their school Nativity. The children took full ownership over the production. As part of their learning, they planned and wrote it all by themselves and collaborated brilliantly to ensure that everyone was included. In PE, they choreographed and practised their own movements and dances.  They did brilliantly and we were extremely proud of them all.

The same week, the Year 5 and 6 Drama Club children put on a fantastic performance over two evenings at Berwick Church. They absolutely surpassed themselves with their incredible acting skills and looked fabulous in the costumes, very kindly put together by Mrs Stoodley. An enormous thank you goes, in particular, to Mrs Jeanette Adams who runs the drama club, completely voluntarily.

In the final week of term, we welcomed Helen Hewson, from Hewson's Enterprise, to provide the children with cultural capital by seeing beyond wheelchairs... Helen and her husband Toby, who both have cerebral palsy, use a wheelchair for mobility, and communication aids to speak. We wanted to teach the children that although Helen is different from them, she is in fact, the same. She does everything that we do but she may have to do it in a slightly different way. The workshops linked with our PSHE unit ‘Celebrating Difference’. The children really enjoyed the sessions and asked some very profound questions.

On the last day of term, the whole school went to St Andrew's Church in the village for a carol service which parents and carers also attended.  The service was led by Emerald Class with the rest of the school supporting them with a variety of music performances on the piano and violin, along with songs from the choir and each class.  It was a wonderful way to end the term.
