WW2 Learning

4th January 2023

On Wednesday 4th January, Emerald Class were transported back in time as World War evacuees for the day.  They experienced air raid drills, were checked for identification throughout the day and role played what it would have been like to leave the city for a new and unfamiliar life in the countryside.  The children read our own school log book from 1939-1945 to learn about what life was like here in our school at that time.  They discovered that 120 were evacuated from London to join the 65 children who were already on roll here at Alfriston.  They heard about the constant air raid warnings and discovered the history behind the famous sea mine on the Tye.
